Montreat NC is a town of unique homes, built from 1898 to the present, nestled in Rhododendron bushes, fir trees, and great boulder outcroppings of the Western NC Blue Ridge Mountains. Many homes are located beside the meandering streams which tumble boldly downward toward Lake Susan and beyond.

The descendants of the early Scottish settlers still live in this beautiful area known has the Southern Highlands to follow in the footsteps of their ancestors who taught their children about their faith in God, integrity in all of life's dealings, honor in working with others and volunteering in helping neighbors and their community. Some of them have outgrown the smaller, original homes of their ancestors but wish to live and own a home of their own behind the beautiful M-shaped stone gate that identifies Montreat NC.

There is a certain peace in communing with nature here in Montreat as one hikes through the woods bordering the sparkling water of the many streams in this area that tumble down the mountains and pour into Lake Susan, the central focal point of much of what happens in Montreat. There are canoes to rent, rocks to hop, fish to catch, pools for swimming, tennis courts for lively competition, and summer clubs for youth of all ages. Ten Thousand Villages is a store that is well stocked with hundreds of items from around the world. Montreat Bookstore is full of books and fascinating, unusual gifts of all kinds with a large covered porch with rocking chairs beside the water falls, stream, and lake.
